| COVID restrictions are the focus of the news, and Boris and his government are pushing for tighter restrcitions. However, he can only do so with the backing of the House of Commons, which has proved to be difficult. He has faced revolt from his own party, even after utilising the whips in an attempt to get the backbenchers to toe the party line. |

This inquiry examines whether the Government’s ambitions for the Navy are adequately matched by the Navy’s current and planned capabilities and the procurement systems that deliver those capabilities. It was launched on 23 April 2021 and over the course of it, it has accepted 42 pieces of written evidence and heard oral evidence from witnesses across four sessions. This is a great example of the effective work of Select Committees in the Commons. The inquiry's name is catchy- so easy to remember to use as an example! This is a good example of how the reform of the Lords is still very much a contested issue, and exactly what should be done with them.
Also, Starmmer highlights the issue of members being Peers mostly with ties to the Conservative party, again reinforcing the fact that many view the Lords as in need of reform.
