The reform of the House of Lords has been discussed in all sessions of Parliament in recent decades.
Most recently, Keir Starmer, Leader of the Opposition, has seemingly backtracked on his pledge to abolish the House of Lords, and instead focus on reforming it. He had previously stated that his government would work towards the aboloshiment of the Lords, and replacing them with a fully elected second chamber. |
Also, Starmmer highlights the issue of members being Peers mostly with ties to the Conservative party, again reinforcing the fact that many view the Lords as in need of reform.
