This is a brilliant resource from the NI Assembly Education department. It is highly interactive and shows you what the key things will be to look out for in the next assembly elections and what to look our for.
Enjoy!
This week has saw a fantastic example of a government defeat at the hands of an eclectic bunch of backbenchers! The issue was Sunday trading. he Government wanted Councils to have the freedoms to allow some shops to extend their opening hours into the times currently restricted on a Sunday. However, a diverse bunch of MP's rejected the proposals (despite desperate government attempts to compromise at the last moment) The Labour Party, the SNP and a significant amount of Conservative backbench rebels - including serial rebel, Peter Bone (awkward squad) rejected the bill. WHY? Some raised moral concerns ; Others raised issues about workers having the right to time off on at least one day of the week; Some wanted to keep Sunday special ; Others saw an opportunity to defeat the government - an opportunity which was grasped and won! Look over this - It is a really good example.
