President Trump seemed to have it all - an election victory and a Congress which was Republican controlled. However, it must be remembered that Trump was never much of a Republican party animal. This is perhaps a reason he was elected in the first place. However, that lack of party background and depth has begun to quickly show cracks and very serious cracks for Trump. On top of facing the wrath of Democrats he is also facing a rebellious and worried GOP (Republican Party) They have become increasingly worried about Trumps policies and public perception. PLAYING A CORKER! REPUBLICAN SENATOR AND CHAIR OF SENATE COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS SLATES TRUMP10/10/2017 These are great articles which explain just how precarious President Trumps hold on the Senate is. He has already had John McCain voting against his repeal of Obamacare bill. Now he has Bob Corker, a very influential Senator and chair of the Foreign affairs committee speaking out against his policies. Although Corker will stand down at the next election which gives him some freedom. It clearly illustrates fluid and loose party ties in Congress.
This is a fabulous BBC article explaining why even after the worst mass shooting in US History gun control is notoriously hard to enact. It explains a great deal about the US Political system and about the power of money and Lobby groups.
